An interior decorator is someone who will be able to modify the aesthetics of your existing space to create a great new look. They will typically help you with tasks such as determining a colour scheme, selecting and arranging furniture, finding and placing wall art, selecting flooring, etc. They are responsible for basically any task involved in decorating a space.

An interior designer will be able to help with many of the same tasks as an interior decorator, but will also be able to offer insight into the use of space. They will have formal academic training in proper space planning. This will allow them to analyse your existing space and make suggestions for how to improve it in terms of both aesthetics and functionality. Luxury designers will formulate interior layouts that maximise the potential of the space you have and partner with other contractors to deliver it.
